節奏國度絕地大反攻 重登流行歌壇一哥寶座
如果懷疑瑞奇馬汀的音樂實力，認定他的音樂早已靈感枯竭，距離《Sound Loaded》五年來第一張英文專輯《Life》勢必帶來絕地大反攻的強勁震撼，從製作概念、融合多變的樂風、編曲、演唱等各項評比，瑞奇馬汀都很有資格說，這絕對是最能代表他音樂生涯的里程作品，《Life》十首作品(專輯還有另兩首西班牙版作品)把所有瑞奇馬汀所能表現的優點都撐出有型風格，原創的、豐富的、深度的...不得不讓人引用珍娜傑克森1989年的劃時代鉅作《1814節奏國度》相提並論，《Life》帶來擁有國際觀點的音樂流派與他在心靈深處從來沒停止過的熱情，在現今流行歌壇缺乏獨特樂型的時刻，《Life》的適時出現不僅是一次成功的回歸，也絲毫讓人找不到任何這一兩年新起潮流的影子。
瑞奇馬汀是拉丁歌壇的一個重要Icon，也是引領拉丁風潮的第一推手，除了電動馬達外，過去多首膾炙人口的熱門唱作也是他的註冊商標，但他的音樂往往熱鬧有餘，少了深植人心的深刻感受，甚至演唱抒情歌曲也有些力不從心，不過這次他出招絕非又是一張拉丁專輯，相反的，新作有相當強烈的企圖和突破，難能可貴地是初試製作人身份的瑞奇完全表現出他在音樂上的驚喜...就連情歌女王Diane Warren為他創作的〈Stop Time Tonight〉少了過份矯情，表現的深情嗓音讓人感動；而大師Billy Mann製作的〈Save The Dance〉更出現瑞奇少見的輕盈浪漫，都是相當完美的非芭樂情歌。
第一主打歌〈I Don’t Care〉雖然找了「小碧昂絲」Amerie和嘻哈天王Fat Joe讓歌曲加足滿分，但實際上瑞奇並未失去第一男主角之名，中版的節奏挖掘出更有個性的瑞奇；邀請雷鬼樂手Julio Voltio的〈I Am〉有豁出去的大膽直接歌詞，卻也帶來瑞奇以往未見的超性感歌聲：管樂激盪的〈It’s Alright〉是瑞奇擅長的節奏勁曲，時尚味道讓人驚喜。等到黑眼豆豆團長製作、邀請近來拉丁當紅炸子雞Daddy Yankee和他互尬整張專輯最拉丁的〈Drop It On Me〉，又帶領聽者到拉丁歌曲最high時刻！再加一首艾薇兒幕後製作群Matrix的〈This Is Good〉，已讓人不知身處加勒比海還是里約熱內盧的嘉年華會。而在這些激情之外，請聽瑞奇找來超龐大的弦樂團打造的〈Til I Get You〉與〈I Won’t Desert You〉，他突然又帶著我們到另一個或者沙漠世界，或者中東色彩的世界邊緣，而這一切歌曲都在專輯同名曲〈Life〉的混合樂風中找到心靈的歸屬方向。
很多大牌歌手往往都在推出自己新專輯時說，這是他最自我的作品，但瑞奇的感覺卻是一種既是傾聽又是和世界抗衡的意識，或許瑞奇從來不是個精於炒作新聞的歌手，但五年後聆聽《Life》時，我才發現，原來那個熱情的瑞奇從沒離開，也帶給歌迷另一個重整出發的新瑞奇馬汀。
